Tips: Do you have a user manual for your business?

A few years ago, Jumping Bean ran into TWO major health crises that brought a stop to business. Deadlines were not being met, bills were late. And we didn't have other writers to take over.

We had always assumed when one of us fell ill, the other could take over, not be the 24-hour caregiver. But because the nature of the illnesses was so severe, Jumping Bean came to a complete standstill twice in two short years. No money, no work, and two very nervous individuals.

After such setbacks,we vowed never to be that unprepared, so we:
  • Contacted writers who could take over our work
  • Organized bills/invoices so someone else could pay them for us
  • We put emergency contacts (doctors, family) in one place

Everything is written down and easy to find so that should the unspeakable should happen again, one of us (or our designated caretaker) will know what to do and who to call to keep the business running somewhat smoothly.
